Dick Jauron has brought stability to this organization. There was a reason we kept the same staff following last year's 7-9 season, and Marv Levy's somewhat abrupt departure. Continuity. It's important to keep a semblance of continuity in your schemes and playbook and just that reliability for your organization overall. You know what you're going to get.

Mediocrity.

Jauron's Bills are now a perfect 3 for 3 in finishing the season 7-9. 7-9 is a losing record. Just one game under .500, but losing nonetheless. Our Bills are now quite clearly... perennial losers. Ugh.

After a big come from behind win on the road at Denver, the Bills completed a sweep of the AFC West. That gives them an undefeated 4-0 record against that division. While our team may be struggling against its own division (facing the very possible reality of being 0-6 in the AFC East after next weekend) it's good to see that we can dominate at least one other division in the NFL! I wonder if they will print t-shirts for us?

The big news surrounding the Buffalo Bills right now is something that they can't talk about right now. It's been rumored since just before this whole losing skid began. After the Bills beat the Chargers, Dick Jauron was reportedly given a contract extension. Some Bills fans (DAVE) were still skeptical, but 5-1 start with this young team seemed to garner a bit more respect for Mr. Jauron, and so... fans cheered the move - though it was never officially announced.

However, as the weeks went on (and the Ls piled up), fans became quite unsettled with the whole prospect of many more years of poor game management and emotionless football, and they wanted to know if the team had in fact offered (and had he signed) a contract extension to Jauron, who has had only one winning season ever as a head coach in the NFL.

All the team would say is, "You know we can't talk about that."

Well, astonishingly, the rumor has surfaced once again, and this time ESPN and NFL.com are reporting that Jauron not only signed a three-year extension, but that he signed it SUNDAY, following what Jauron himself called, "The worst loss of the year." Ouch. Seriously???

Jauron's only response to questions thrown at him from every angle was, "You know we can't talk about that. We have rules. You know the rules."

Ugh. What a season, folks. What a season.

In the 1970s, the Buffalo Bills went oh-for-the-decade against the Miami Dolphins. 1970-1979 they were 0-20 versus Miami. Now, even after a brilliant, promising 4-0 start (even moving to 5-1) the Bills have fallen as not even the most pessimistic could have honestly foreseen. They will miss the playoffs for the tenth straight season. A lost decade.

(Let's hope they don't make it oh-for-the-ohs!)

This Bills team has shown depths of ineptitude that rivals the perennially bad franchises like Detroit, Cincinnati, Houston and Arizona. If you'll recall, Arizona won their division this season. And Cincinnati did just a couple years ago. There really aren't many that rival our badness.

The Bills kickers were more than "off" their game yesterday, and may have effectively "kicked" their team out of the playoffs. (If they weren't before.) The hardest thing to swallow for Bills fans is not that they are "out" of the playoffs (because, as Greg points out, they really are not!) but just the fact that they lost TWO home games to teams with only three wins a piece. Yuck. What happened to home field advantage???

Speaking of home field... the Bills "host" the Dolphins next week in the first regular season NFL game ever played north of the border in Canada. At this point, it seems meaningless, but it's really not. The Bills really need to win, and it's a shame that such a crucial home divisional game is not being played at home.

After four consecutive losses - in games the Bills could have won, and maybe should have won - the best medicine may have been playing a Chiefs team that has now lost 19 of their last 20 games. The Bills just had fun, putting up 54 points, 5 takeaways, 6 touchdowns... it doesn't get much better. Even had Josh Reed back! (Greg argues that the Bills are now 7-1 this season when Josh Reed is playing, even though they actually only have 6 wins.)

0-3 is not what we wanted to see under the Division Record column after this three-game divisional stretch. Ouch. To make matters worse, while the Bills have been posting the inverse record of their incredible 4-1 start, their division opponents are all on fire. Buffalo has gone from a fairly comfortable first place in the AFC East to last place, thanks to their winless record against each of their divisional foes.

The Dolphins brought their "A" Game and the Bills did not on Sunday. I'm not sure if it was "B" or "C"... or worse. But it was definitely not "A". And now because of a somewhat lackluster performance, the Bills are now tied with the Patriots at 5-2 atop the AFC East, and the Jets (our next opponent) are only one game behind!

Even a power outage couldn't keep the Bills from proving the Chargers - and the NFL - that they are legitimate. They did not simply amass their record against inept opponents (who have all beaten Dallas, Washington, Indy, Denver and the Jets). The Bills are back this Sunday and BBR will be there! Come join us this weekend at the Erie Community College parking lot, just across Abbott road from The Ralph. There's a map on the BBR news page (buffalobillsreview.com/news).

There is a game this week, and it's a doozy! Early on this season, the Chargers were having trouble winning games (though they were close) but they just put a hurtin' on our division rivals, The Patriots, last weekend, and they come to Buffalo with tons of swagger. And talent. Let's hope they also come to town with lots of jet lag, and find out the Bills are quite ready to put their first loss of the season behind them.

Greg does the show solo tonight due to some scheduling snafus, so it's short and sweet. Greg did join the BoltTalk podcast guys for a bit last night, too though, so if you want to hear some more Bills talk, head on over to their podcast at bolttalk.com.
